This is an update to my post from November 24, 2023.

As of December 12, there are now seven trans people (including myself) being criminally charged for participating in a peaceful protest against The University of Iowa’s infuriating commitment to repeatedly platforming transphobic hate speech.

Jessica Duling of Refuge Iowa City created this beautiful illustration depicting the Palestine Sunbird as inspiration for our community to keep calling representatives, to keep using our voices, to keep demanding an immediate ceasefire in Palestine and Gaza and to fight like hell to end apartheid and all forms of patriarchy and supremacy.

Jessica has kindly given me permission to post this piece on JoCo6 where I will be sharing information related to the charges against the seven trans protesters arrested (including me) for taking part in the protest honoring trans rights on October 16, 2023.

All systems of oppression are interconnected so when we speak out to demand freedom for the seven charged in Johnson County, we must also cry out for the peace and freedom of Palestinians and of all people harmed by colonialism and occupation.
