Global Food Project was founded in 2016 by folks seeking to make a more inclusive and interconnected Iowa City. They thought that different communities coming together to grow food alongside one another would be one way to achieve this.
GFP has grown to nearly 100 family plots, as well as increasing market plots from six to eleven. The market plot growers will be selling their produce through a variety of avenues including the Saturday afternoon market at the Johnson County Historic Poor Farm dedicated to selling a diverse array of international crops.
Ben Schmidt Trio is looking forward to sharing music at the first market of the season on Saturday, July 12 from 3-5 pm.
Singer-songwriter Ben Schmidt hails from Chicago, IL, but has planted roots firmly in the Iowa soil.
Ben’s songs are steeped in the poetry of the Iowa landscape, drawing imagery from the everyday routines, struggles, and miracles of the human experience.
With musical styles from folk to blues to country and soul, Schmidt has developed a rich texture of sound inside of which his characters can dance, pray, celebrate, and mourn.
Ben Schmidt Trio includes Chris Dimond on guitar and Tara McGovern on fiddle, both from the Iowa City-based trio KERAK.
