My Name is Rachel Corrie

Rachel Corrie was murdered by IDF soldiers as she stood in protection of her Palestinian friends and neighbors in Rafah 21 years ago today on March 16, 2003. She should have turned 24 on April 10.

I turned 25 on April 13 of that year and I remember Rachel. We all need to remember Rachel. While we remember Rachel, we will share our spotlight with our Palestinian friends and neighbors to highlight art by Palestinians and to hear their voices.

Willow Creek Theatre Company is producing “My Name is Rachel Corrie”, a one act show based on the emails and journal entries of the American activist who was killed by Israeli forces while protecting a Palestinian home. The play was jointly edited by journalist Katharine Viner and actor Alan Rickman who also directed the first production.

We will present our performance with local Palestinian artists, as well as a panel discussion after each show discussing the continued violence against Palestinians with panelists from Iowa City Action for Palestine, Iowans for Palestine, Jewish Voices for Peace and from Rachel’s family.

This show has a long history of being cancelled or being overlooked by producers due to major sponsors and donors refusing to fund it. To that end, we are relying primarily on crowd funding in order to make the show possible. Your donation will help us cover the cost of rights, artist pay, as well as general production costs.
